Read & Recharge: Bring Your Own Book Club

There’s something special about settling into a good book. Whether you’re working through a towering TBR pile, revisiting an old favorite, or discovering a new author, reading offers a chance to slow down, recharge, and get lost in a story.

This summer, we’re inviting book lovers to do just that with a new gathering at 577: Read & Recharge: Bring Your Own Book Club.

Unlike a traditional book club, there’s no assigned reading and no pressure to finish a specific book before attending. Instead, participants are encouraged to bring whatever they’re currently reading and enjoy an evening of books and community.

We’ll begin by sharing what we’re reading and chatting about favorite books before settling in for a quiet hour of uninterrupted reading time. Afterward, there will be an opportunity to continue reading or spend some time socializing with fellow book lovers.

The evening will be hosted by Jennie from 577’s Welcome Center & Curiosity Shop. A lifelong reader with a background in education and a love of learning, Jennie will help guide introductions and discussion before and after the reading time.

We’re piloting this gathering over the summer and hope it becomes a year-round opportunity for readers to connect, relax, and enjoy dedicated time with a good book.

Inspired by conversations and creativity shared at the Ohio Arts Council’s Arts Impact Ohio conference, Executive Director Heather Gallant reflects on artist David Zinn’s playful work and the “fear of the blank canvas” many people experience when trying something new creatively. Through stories about art, process, and joy, Heather reminds us that creativity is less about perfection and more about curiosity, connection, and making space for wonder in everyday life.
