Celebrate Sustainability with 577!

Get ready to celebrate Go Green Day at 577! Join us on Saturday, April 26, from 11am to 3pm for a day filled with hands-on experiences, creative projects, and opportunities to learn from local experts. There’s something for everyone—kids, adults, nature lovers, and creative spirits alike.

Here’s what’s happening throughout the day:

Hands-On Activities with the 577 Team

Eco & Nature Games
On the lawn near the Cottage, try nature bingo, a composting bean bag toss, and nature photography. Kids can pick out a free book to take home.

Block Printing
Create prints with unique artist-made stamps on book pages or upcycled fabric in the Cottage, and learn more about upcoming classes.

Watercolor Flowers
Paint watercolor flowers on recycled book pages using black walnut ink and donated supplies in the Garage Studio at Virginia’s House.

Wildflower Seed Balls
Make your own seed ball in the Pottery Studio with wildflower seeds, dirt, and recycled clay. One per person while supplies last.

Collage Tulips
Make a tulip collage in the Library at Virginia’s House using marbled paper, magazines, and more. Finish with cardboard and yarn seed bulbs.

Kids Sewing & Visible Mending
In the historic Cottage, kids can try a basic hand sewing project, while adults explore visible mending techniques. Led by 577 staff Wren and Heather.

Tree Trek Scavenger Hunt
Pick up a guide in the Welcome Center or Breezeway and explore over 15 tree species around the grounds on a self-guided adventure.

Explore the Welcome Center & Curiosity Shop
Open 9am to 5pm, browse rescued books, art supplies, and handmade items, discover local artists, and find inspiration for your next creative adventure.

Explore Virginia’s House & Cottage
Tour the first floor of Virginia’s House and Cottage, check out classroom spaces, enjoy the Library, and try a puzzle on the screened porch.

Wander the Gardens & Grounds
Take time to enjoy the gardens, Geodesic Biodome, Bee Room, 1800s Log House, and follow the Riverwalk Trail down to the Maumee River.

April StoryWalk®: Pando—A Living Wonder of Trees
Stroll through the featured StoryWalk® and discover the fascinating story of Pando, a remarkable grove of quaking aspens.

Community Partner Activities

Decorate & Plant a Terra Cotta Pot
At the Outdoor Stage, join Becca Mathews of River Bend Homestead to decorate a terra cotta pot and plant it with basil or wildflower seeds. Learn about Becca’s flower farm and upcoming classes at 577.

Discover Mushroom Growing
Stop by the tent near the Cottage to meet Thomas Lodge of MidAm Mushrooms. See live mushrooms and a variety of growing techniques, and ask your mushroom questions!

Conservation: Everyone Can Do It
Visit the Dining Room in Virginia’s House to chat with Country Garden Club members about home conservation and food waste composting. Find practical tips and inspiration for greener living.

Rain Gardens, Rain Barrels & Stormwater Solutions
Also in the Dining Room at Virginia’s House, meet Lauren Rush, Stormwater Coordinator for the City of Perrysburg. Learn about rain gardens, rain barrels, composting, and how to prevent stormwater pollution.

Invasive Species & Aquatic Invertebrates
Meet Rowan Coburg-Griffis, Ohio Scenic Rivers Manager for ODNR, to learn about invasive species management and the important invertebrates found in local waterways.

Understanding Climate Change Presentation
Wrap up your day in the Library at Virginia’s House with Dan Burgard of Citizens’ Climate Education. His presentation, “Understanding Climate Change,” begins at 3pm and covers climate science, local impacts, and actions we can all take.

Meet the Beekeeper
Visit the Bee Room from 2pm to 3pm to chat with volunteer beekeeper Sara. Learn about honeybees, ask your questions, and watch Sara make frames for the hive.

Storytime & Nature Games
In the Log House, join Kids Explore Nature instructors Nancy and John Salerno for storytime and fun nature games—perfect for families.

Plus! Enjoy a Picnic Lunch
Grab lunch from Lyle’s Crepes (beginning at 11am, Circle Drive at Virginia’s House). Indoor seating available in the Dining Room. Menu items may vary; available while supplies last.


Go Green Day is free, open to all, and will take place rain or shine. Overflow parking is available across the street at the medical center (28442 E River Rd).
