Local Authors Workshop: Nature Writing to Heal
Saturday, November 22 ~ 10am to 12pm

Join local authors Anna Isabel Garrison and Kate Michaelson inside Virginia’s House as they discuss the power of writing in helping each of us recognize and shape our personal stories. The authors will share how writing has helped them through difficulties in their own lives and will provide insights into how the written word can be used as a tool for healing and empowerment.

Attendees will be invited to participate in a series of short exercises ranging from journaling to poetry and fiction. The authors are excited to share these creative practices as strategies to understand and shape your life’s narrative for years to come. Class Note: Attendees are encouraged to bring a journal and favorite pen for the journalling exercises.

Both “A Wandering Path” by Anna Isabel Garrison and “Hidden Rooms” by Kate Michaelson will be available for purchase at the event, and you’ll have the chance to get your copy signed by the authors!

Fall Houseplant Sale is happening now!

The greenhouses at 577 are bursting with beautiful plants, and we can’t wait to share them with you. Our Fall Houseplant Sale begins this Friday, September 12, and will continue while supplies last in the Welcome Center & Curiosity Shop, open Monday through Saturday, 9am to 5pm.

This year’s collection offers a wide variety of sizes, from small succulent pots and tabletop plants to larger statement pieces. You’ll find a selection of vining plants like pothos and peperomia, colorful begonias, easy-care cacti, striking ficus, and even a few one-of-a-kind treasures waiting to be discovered. Many of these plants may look familiar. You might recognize them as propagated from the thriving collections in our Geodesic Biodome and Virginia’s House.

Proceeds from plant sales support the 577 Growing Fund, helping to sustain our Community Garden programs and the landscape gardens enjoyed by visitors year-round.

Celebrate Earth Month with 577 in April!

Virginia Secor Stranahan envisioned 577 as a place where people would “learn to love the land.” While the world celebrates Earth Day on April 22, here we honor it every day.

Join us in April, as we highlight the many ways we can all make small changes that make a big impact in protecting the planet. By taking action and working together, we can help ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.

Sustainability and the environment are one of 577’s key pillars. During April, many of our classes are tailored towards keeping our planet green, reusing and repurposing, and exploring new ways of loving the environment around us. Through sustainable art, and learning about & implementing greener practices, we can lead by example and inspire others to make the change(s) too. Plus! Earth Month Event Highlight: Go Green Day on April 25!
