Green Door Studio at 577

At 577, creativity has always found a home in unexpected places. This month, one of our oldest buildings is opening a new chapter as the Green Door Studio—a space designed for hands-on art, gardening, and connection.

The Green Door Studio has a long history. Originally built around 1914 as part of the Greenhalgh family’s “hobby farm,” the building once served as a wagon shed. More recently, it housed our maintenance team’s workshop. Now, thanks to careful renovation, it’s been reimagined into a vibrant studio where creativity can flourish.

As 577 has grown, so too has the number and variety of classes we offer. To make room for more of the experiences you love, we set out to transform this historic space into a classroom designed especially for hands-on art and gardening.

This project was brought to life through the generous support of The Lott-Conlon Foundation and the estate of longtime class participant and dear friend, Karen Leopold.

  • The Lott-Conlon Foundation funded the installation of a new accessible concrete pathway leading from the courtyard parking lot to the studio and Bee Room.
  • Karen’s estate gift supported the renovation of the former maintenance shop into the Green Door Studio, and the conversion of Virginia’s House garage into the new maintenance shop.
