Set against the backdrop of our gardens, historic buildings, and peaceful grounds, this special weekend will bring together children’s book writers and illustrators for inspiration, learning, and creative connection.

The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) is the world’s largest professional organization dedicated to supporting creators of children’s books. SCBWI Ohio North serves writers and illustrators throughout northern Ohio by offering educational programs, networking opportunities, and events that help members grow their craft and navigate the publishing industry.
This fall, SCBWI Ohio North is excited to host an intimate Writers & Illustrators Retreat at The 577 Foundation in Perrysburg, Ohio, from October 9–11, 2026. Set among the Foundation’s beautiful gardens, historic buildings, and peaceful natural surroundings, the retreat is designed to give participants dedicated time to create, learn, and connect with fellow creatives.
Retreat attendees will enjoy:
- Instruction and guidance from three respected children’s publishing professionals
- Two professional critiques (one written and one in-person)
- Inspiring keynote presentations and an industry Q&A
- All meals throughout the retreat
- Time to write, illustrate, recharge, and explore The 577 Foundation’s beautiful campus
- Meaningful networking in a small, supportive community of writers and illustrators
- Post-retreat submission opportunities with ALL in-person and off-site faculty (12 total)
