A New Chapter of Creativity at 577

Oct 9, 2025 | News & Updates

The Green Door Studio is officially open! Last week, we gathered with friends, community partners, and supporters to celebrate this exciting addition to 577. Guests toured the new space, enjoyed local bites from Social Rind Co., and even made their own take-home artwork. It was a joyful afternoon filled with creativity, connection, and gratitude.

We were honored to be joined by Perrysburg City Council Members Kerry Wellstein and Mark Weber, Wood County Commissioner Craig LaHote, and many members of the Perrysburg Chamber of Commerce, along with 577 staff, board members, and community friends. Their presence made the day even more special, reminding us of the strong local support that continues to sustain 577.

Once a wagon shed built around 1914, the building has seen many chapters, from family “hobby farm” days to decades as a maintenance workshop. Now, thoughtfully restored and reimagined, it begins its next chapter as a place for hands-on art and gardening classes. Every detail of the renovation honors the building’s history while making it a welcoming, functional studio for learners of all ages.

The transformation was made possible through the generosity of The Lott-Conlon Foundation and longtime class participant and 577 friend, Karen Leopold. A grant from The Lott-Conlon Foundation supported the new accessible pathway connecting the Courtyard to the Green Door Studio and Bee Room, while Ms. Leopold’s estate gift helped make the renovation itself and the new maintenance shop in Virginia’s House garage possible.

Executive Director Heather Gallant shared her gratitude, noting that gifts like those of Karen Leopold, Mary Anne Tigges, and 577’s founder, Virginia Stranahan, are the reason this special place continues to grow and inspire new generations.

Thanks to this outpouring of generosity, the Green Door Studio is already buzzing with creativity. Classes are now underway in the new space throughout October and November—click here for a look at what’s coming up.

Beyond the Green Door Studio, 577 offers more than 40 classes each month across its many unique learning spaces, including Virginia’s House, the Cottage, the Pottery Studio, the Log House, the Outdoor Stage, and the Gardens and Grounds—each designed to inspire creativity, curiosity, and connection for all who visit.
