Happy Birthday, Virginia!

Mar 25, 2025 | Friends of 577

Update: A heartfelt THANK YOU to all who donated to the pottery fund for our Day of Giving in celebration of Virginia Secor Stranahan’s birthday!

Our supporters are amazing — because of you, we were able to EXCEED our goal of $15,000 in pledges and gifts!

Many thanks to Trust Company Family Offices for providing a generous gift of $3,000 in matching funds. We are so grateful for their ongoing commitment to 577.

Stay tuned for more details on all the wonderful work that will be made possible because of your philanthropic support—we can’t wait to share it with you.

Didn’t get a chance to give yesterday? There’s still time! We’re accepting gifts through the end of this week. You can make your gift to 577 online today at 577foundation.org/donate

577’s founder, Virginia Secor Stranahan, was once described as “a one-person dynamo.”  It was said that she was honest, inspiring, practical, and “one who always looked at the positive points in everyone and everything.”

On this day in 1906, Virginia Secor Stranahan was born. Today, we honor what would have been her 119th birthday. Thanks to her vision and generosity, 577 continues to be a place where the community can explore, learn, and connect with one another.

To celebrate Virginia’s birthday, you can support her homestead – a place that is enjoyed by thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds each year. You can help us continue our mission to build a creative, caring community through curiosity and lifelong learning and honor the legacy of our special founder.

Donations on our Day of Giving will support the pottery program which has been inspiring creativity for 36 years.

Funds raised will help cover the costs to rebuild the wood kiln, replace electric kilns, and purchase equipment and supplies for our robust pottery studio.

Help us reach our goal of $15,000 in 24 hours! The first $3,000 raised will be matched, dollar for dollar, by our title sponsor for the Day of Giving, Trust Company Family Offices.

Double your gift with this matching donation from Trust Company Family Offices!

We are grateful to everyone who has already invested in the pottery program. Your support keeps 577’s vibrant arts community thriving. Read HERE how your gift to 577’s Pottery Program will have an impact.

With Gratitude,

Heather

More Art in More Places, More Joy to More People

Inspired by conversations and creativity shared at the Ohio Arts Council’s Arts Impact Ohio conference, Executive Director Heather Gallant reflects on artist David Zinn’s playful work and the “fear of the blank canvas” many people experience when trying something new creatively. Through stories about art, process, and joy, Heather reminds us that creativity is less about perfection and more about curiosity, connection, and making space for wonder in everyday life.

Spend your Saturday at 577! Music in the Gardens returns June 13 with free live music and hands-on art activities.
