Courtyard Renovations Begin

Jul 10, 2023 | News & Updates

Pardon our dust – something exciting is coming soon! Starting today, July 10, 2023, 577’s courtyard will be undergoing some much-needed renovations. Our contractors are taking advantage of a rain-free forecast and beginning a project that has been planned for some time.

577 is dedicated to stewarding Virginia Secor Stranahan’s homestead and preserving its historic features as we address longstanding drainage issues and aging concrete in our courtyard. These improvements will enhance the safety, accessibility, and beauty of 577’s “front door” and we’re excited to begin!

While 577 will remain open during construction, please note that certain areas may be blocked off or temporarily unavailable over the next few weeks. Please follow the signs to navigate to your desired locations.

Areas that will be impacted include:

  • The Main Front Parking Lot will be closed for at least 7 to 10 days. Please follow the signs to the parking lot located next to Virginia’s House. Parking is limited and may be reserved for scheduled classes or reservations. The main parking lot should be available on weekends, updates coming soon.
  • The Courtyard Bathroom will be closed during renovations. A public restroom is available in the Bee Room.
  • Access to the Pottery Studio entrance will be in the grassy area by the community gardener tool shed and Raku area.
  • Access to the Bee Room entrance will be from the Log House or in the grass area by the community gardener tool shed. A public restroom is available in the Bee Room
  • Access to the Welcome Center & Curiosity Shop and Cottage will be from the Cottage patio area. Follow the signs from Terra Vitis through the grass.

Stay tuned for updates along the way and check this blog and social media for important information about your visit.

Inspired by conversations and creativity shared at the Ohio Arts Council’s Arts Impact Ohio conference, Executive Director Heather Gallant reflects on artist David Zinn’s playful work and the “fear of the blank canvas” many people experience when trying something new creatively. Through stories about art, process, and joy, Heather reminds us that creativity is less about perfection and more about curiosity, connection, and making space for wonder in everyday life.
