December StoryWalk® at 577

577’s December StoryWalk® is A Splash of Red: The Life and Art of Horace Pippin by Jen Bryant, Illustrated by Melissa Sweet

Horace Pippin loved to draw pictures for his sisters, his classmates, his co-workers. Even during W.W.I, Horace filled his notebooks with drawings from the trenches—until he was wounded. Would he ever draw again? Bryant & Sweet share the story of a self-taught artist who overcame poverty, racism, disability, and war to become an American master.

The StoryWalk trail begins next to the Terra Vitis and Community Gardens. Follow the 20 signposts spread across the grounds featuring a page or two of award-winning picture books.

The gardens and ground, plus the StoryWalk Trail, Bee Room, Log House, and Geodesic BioDome, at 577 are open daily, 9am to 5pm. Open to all, free admission.

The StoryWalk® is a year-round trail around the circumference of the 577 grounds. The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
